Others are not to blame for that, Tohru. You are the one who utterly lacks faith in anyone who cares for you.

[Adachi paused, letting out a sigh as he thought over how to respond.]

[Why did she just admit that? It wasn't as though she was ever going to trust him again, much less act on what had once been - or almost been - between them.]

[He knew she never would; that was part of what made this hurt so goddamn much. He was glad he kept this to voice now, so she couldn't see that was probably the worst thing she could have said to him.]

[A moment, and then...]

Tohru, whatever has happened between us, I still do not wish you to throw yourself away.

[Adachi was quiet a moment, staring at his bracelet, before he let out a laugh.]

Well, it's not like it's going to matter soon anyway.

[Is it because he'll be going back to prison?]

Well, either the end of our time here or the end of the world is coming. Even if we win, I doubt we'll remember anything that happened here.

[The soft, dismayed gasp she makes cannot be easily heard, but it's still there.]

Yeah... you know, I felt like I went back for a little while, right? In my head at least; couldn't remember a thing that happened here. So it's probably not going to be any different if -- when -- we get to leave.
